Greetings from
BREWSTER COUNTY

Take Action

Brewster County hasn’t agreed to anything yet. Judge Henington told the Sept. 15 workshop that no agreements have been signed. Here’s how to make sure it stays that way.

№1

Contact the Commissioners Court and County Judge Greg Henington

Ask them to:

  • Reject this project and agree to sign no secrecy agreements (NDAs).
  • Pass rules now that keep projects like this out of the Big Bend — a formal resolution opposing this project, with the county ready to challenge its state air and water permits.
  • Not just rules for how they’re built: an independent water study before any development plans, and firm limits on water, noise and lighting.
  • Update the county’s lighting ordinance to cover construction projects. Today it exempts temporary construction lighting, and a buildout like this could run 5–7 years.

WRITE BACK

A message you can make your own

Dear Judge Henington and Commissioners,

I’m writing as a [resident / landowner / business owner] in [your town] to ask you to reject the gas power plant and AI data center Pacifico Energy has proposed for the Ahern Ranch near the Glass Mountains.

Pacifico’s own model, its Pecos County plant, is permitted to be bigger than any U.S. power plant and to release up to 33 million tons of greenhouse gases a year. Pacifico has named no water source in a county that runs on wells, and our lighting rules exempt construction lighting for a buildout that could last 5–7 years.

Please pass a formal resolution opposing this project, agree to sign no secrecy agreements, require an independent water study before any development plans, and update the county’s lighting ordinance to cover construction projects.

Thank you,
[Your name, town]

Show up, and bring your neighbors

Be there when this returns to the Commissioners Court agenda. Pacifico’s CEO reportedly credited “lack of local opposition” in Pecos County. Let’s not give them that here.

Nothing is on the agenda yet; the court said it will notify the public when it is. Sign up below and we’ll tell you the date.

NEXT MEETING

Not on the agenda yet

When it is, the Commissioners Court meets at the Brewster County Courthouse, 201 W. Ave. E, Alpine. Sign up and we’ll tell you the date.

№3

Call your state lawmakers

Rep. Eddie Morales

Texas House District 74

Capitol: (512) 463-0566
District offices in Eagle Pass and Del Rio

Sen. César Blanco

Senate District 29

Capitol: (512) 463-0129
El Paso: (915) 577-0029

Sen. Roland Gutierrez

Senate District 19

Capitol: (512) 463-0119
Uvalde: (830) 278-1234

Brewster County is split between two Senate districts. Find your senator and representative by address on the Legislature’s official lookup.

Use this pause

Gov. Abbott has frozen state permits for data centers, but only until a state audit ends, expected in December. Lt. Gov. Patrick has made their impact on landowners and water a Senate priority, and no neighboring landowners are known to support this project. Act locally now, before the permits flow again.
